Solid tour, minor hiccup

We booked a Hakone Day Trip with GoWithGuide. The guide was knowledgeable and the itinerary was well-planned. We got to see all the main sights without feeling rushed. Communication before the tour was clear and helpful. My only small criticism is that the meeting point instructions could have been a tiny bit more specific. We found it, but it took an extra few minutes of looking around. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable and well-executed tour, good value for a full day out.

Mount Fuji tour was amazing!

Oh my gosh, the Mount Fuji Private Tour was incredible! Our guide, Yumi, was so friendly and knew all the best photo spots. It was totally customized for us, and we saw so much more than we expected. I loved every minute of it! We will absolutely book with GoWithGuide again for our next trip to Japan. Seriously, if you're thinking about it, just do it. You won't regret it!

Kyoto Temple Tour was excellent

I booked a Kyoto Temple Tour for myself and my partner through GoWithGuide. The booking process was straightforward on their website; I found it easy to navigate and select our dates. Communication with our guide, Kenji, started almost immediately after booking, which was great for planning. He helped us customize some of the temple choices based on our interests. The tour itself was fantastic. Kenji was very knowledgeable about the history and significance of each temple. He even pointed out some less-known spots. We used public transport during the tour, which was well-managed by Kenji, making it stress-free. The quality of the tour was top-notch, truly a private and authentic experience. The only minor point was that entrance fees weren't included, but that was clear upfront. Overall, a really solid experience and I felt like we got a lot of value for what we paid.

Had a nice time in Nara

So I booked the Nara Deer Park Tour for my family and it was pretty chill. Our guide met us right at the station and off we went. It was cool seeing all the deer up close, and the guide knew some good spots away from the biggest crowds. We ended up having lunch at a place he recommended too, which was tasty. Everything went smoothly, no drama or anything. Just a good day out, felt easy and fun.

Does anyone know if transportation is usually included in the price? Or do you have to pay extra for trains/buses during the tour?

R Rosa Lindqvist 1 month ago
From my experience, usually not. Guides help you navigate public transport or taxis but you pay those fares as you go.

Yeah, I had to pay for my own train tickets when I did a tour in Osaka. The guide told me what to get though, super helpful.

Hey, anyone know if you can get a discount if you book a few tours, like one for Tokyo and then another for Kyoto? Or is it just one coupon per booking?

T Todd J. 2 months ago
Pretty sure it's usually one discount code per tour. But they do have multi-day tour discounts sometimes.

I think I saw something about a multi-day discount. Not sure if it applies automatically or if you need a code though. Check their promotions page, maybe?

Thinking of booking a tour for Japan, like a private one for Tokyo. Is GoWithGuide legit or is it one of those sketchy sites?

I Ivy Q. 2 months ago
Yeah, it's legit. Used them for a Kyoto tour last year, everything went smoothly.

Totally legit. They have a pretty solid vetting process for their guides, I remember reading about it somewhere. And it's way better than a huge group tour, you get a real local vibe.

how easy is it to change the itinerary after you've booked? Like if I decide I want to add an extra stop or something?

D Daisy 2 months ago
Super easy. Just message your guide directly, they're usually really flexible.

I changed my Kyoto tour a bit after booking, just messaged the guide and it was fine. They're all about customizing it for you.

Thinking of a private tour of Mount Fuji, but there's so many options out there. How do these compare to something like Viator or GetYourGuide?

D Dan 2 months ago
GoWithGuide is more personalized, less generic. With Viator you sometimes end up in bigger groups even if you think you booked private.

I found GoWithGuide better for truly custom experiences. You actually talk to the guide before, unlike some of the others where it's more of a set package. It's really for when you want something specific and not just a standard tour.

I'm looking at a tour for cherry blossom season, but it's still pretty far out. Do they do early bird deals or anything like that?

M Marcus H. 2 months ago
Oh yeah, they totally do! I got an early bird discount for a trip last spring.

Keep an eye out, they definitely have seasonal promotions, especially for popular times like cherry blossom season. Might pop up closer to the date too.
